Here at the aviary we get a lot of questions about what type of waterers we use. Some of our customers bring their birds home & stick a water bottle (LIXIT)in their cages & wonder why they never see their bird interested in it? That's because our birds are all on OPEN DISH water supply. And anyway, who wants to get their water- one drop at a time? Yes, the open waterer it's a bit more hassle in keeping it clean, however it is more sanitary & keeps down the risk of intestinal infection in your bird. We always send home instructions to give open water dish access to our babies here at OASIS, but if you insist on using the water bottle method, you can easily "train" your bird to use them by hanging one directly ABOVE the open water dish (filled with water) they will tend to investigate the new gaget & will over time start to drink from it. However, be careful not to take away the open waterer too soon, or they may dehydrate & die.
