DNA SEXING- JUST TO KNOW THE SEX OF YOUR BIRD (whatever the result-Male or Female) you will receive a Certificate stating the sex of your bird.
This is a process of determining the sex of your bird(If you have a preferrence, you will need to order a Gender Specified DNA- which cost more). We either do the test by egg shell, feather or drop of blood(this procedure is just a simple clipping of the toenail-painless). The sample is then sent off to one of two nationally recognized laboratories that we use. As soon as we receive the results of the testing conducted by the lab, we mail you the CERTIFICATE officially stating your birds sex, male or female.
We can DNA sex any baby or bird & send the specimen off to the laboratory right before the bird leaves our nursery. The results are available in about 7-10 business days. Once we receive the results they are then mailed to you. Just to know the gender of a bird that you order (whatever the result) is $35.00.
To specifically request a certain sex of bird (male or female) you must order the GENDER SPECIFIC DNA TEST which is $45 & up. The following scenario applies.
If you are requesting a "male" Green Cheek conure, the cost is $150. This is due to the higher ratio of female to males in any given clutch* most are female birds. If you require/order a particular gender (specified gender), the cost will vary with gender required and the species of bird (this is $45.00- $100.00 for most species/genders). Some species have a higher percentage of males or females so this cost will vary accordingly (example- Sun Conures often have a higher male to female ratio, so we charge $150.00 to guarantee a DNA-sexed female Sun Conure).
If you have requested a specific sex & did not pay the $45- $150 DNA LAB FEE, then we will visually or behaviorly sex them as best as we can according to our knowledge. There is no charge for "sight sexing" (our best guess based upon slight physical differences & or behavioral differences),
but we do NOT guarantee the results of sight sexing on species with non-sexually dimorphic plumage. As we do this free of charge & is not 100% accurate.(*please note: some species are very difficult to even "visually sex". What is meant by "specified gender"?(or gender specific DNA testing).
Specified gender is when you order a male or female, specifically. The cost for this is a flat $45.00 for DNA sexing for many species. If you just want to know the gender of next available baby to be assigned to your order, the charge (no specific gender requested with result guaranteed) is $35.00.
