What is meant by "specified gender"?
Specified gender is when you order a male or female, specifically. The cost for this is a flat $45.00 for DNA sexing for many species. If you just want to know the gender of next available baby to be assigned to your order, the charge (no specific gender result) is $30.00.
This involves a process of determining the sex of your bird through DNA. We either do it by egg shell, feather or drop of blood (this procedure is just a simple clipping of the toenail-painless). The sample is then sent off to a nationally recognized company, AVIAN BIOTECH in Florida or AMR LABORATORIES in PA. When we receive the results of the testing conducted by the lab, we will then have a CERTIFICATE that will come with your bird-stating & certifying your birds sex.
We can DNA sex any baby or bird & send the specimen off to the laboratory. The results are available in about a week's time. Just to know the gender of a bird that you order (whatever the result) is $30.00. Specified Gender DNA sexing for Green Cheek conure males is $150 *due to the higher ratio of females to males in a clutch* most are female birds. If you require/order a particular gender (specified gender), the cost will vary with gender required and the species of bird (this is $45.00- $150.00 for most species/genders). Some species have a higher percentage of males or females so this cost will vary accordingly.
PLEASE NOTE: DNA GREEN CHEEK CONURE MALE $150 *The ratio of females to males is very high in this species, and may not be available for several clutches. Also, SUN CONURES often have a higher male to female ratio, so the charge is $65.00 to guarantee a DNA-sexedfemaleSun Conure).
If you have requested a specific sex & did not pay the $45- $150 SPECIFIED GENDER DNA LAB FEE, then we will visually or behaviorly sex them to the best of our ability according to our knowledge & experience. There is no charge for "sight sexing" (our best guess based upon slight physical differences & or behavioral differences),
but we do NOT guarantee the results of sight sexing on species with non-dimorphic plumage. As we do this free of charge & is not 100% accurate.
